Gemma Atkinson received messages ‘giving her grief’ after sharing a video of her daughter standing near her while she pedalled an exercise bike.
Fitness fanatic Gemma shared the video on Instagram of one-year-old Mia standing up while holding and playing with a toy as the doting mum used a fan-assisted bike, which created a wind machine for Mia.
The clip was called ‘cute’ and ‘motivational” by many fans, but it worried some followers.
“I couldn’t help thinking that a child that is still a bit unsteady on her feet shouldn’t be that close to a fly wheel. My heart was in my mouth watching that,” said one.
Another person commented: “I kept looking at the fingers.”
The Hits Radio presenter and former Emmerdale actress, 35, replied: “The fingers playing with her own toy next to a fan assisted bike (no wheel) with a protective cage around it anyway? She’s not shark diving!”
The former Strictly Come Dancing finalist from Bury later answered back with a follow-up Instagram Stories video.
She said: “To those who messaged giving me grief because Mia’s stood near a fan-assisted bike in the gym while I’m supervising.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, she doesn’t use that, she uses this.”
The camera then panned to an electric bike to the soundtrack of the Top Gun classic Highway to the Danger Zone.
Gemma, who welcomed Mia with Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Gorka Marquez last July, says she loves having her little girl with her in the home gym.
Explaining her latest workout she said: “Quick circuit today! Well I say quick, it always takes longer when little lady is in tow but she wasn’t for having her nap today so we made do.
“I actually enjoy Mia watching me exercise.
“It’s fun and so many people have said to me children don’t really do what you say, they do what you do.
“I love having her in the gym with me pottering about and taking it all in although this is the reason I set my alarm for 5am on training days, Mia’s still asleep so I know I’m guaranteed to get my session done without having to stop for high 5’s.”
One fan defended: “@glouiseatkinson and @gorka_marquez are fantastic role models for their little bubba.
“Little Mia is probably looking thinking ‘wow look at my mumma go’.
“Yes she ‘could’ fall over but then she could also have a fall in a living room or even out in the open surrounded by nothing but air.
“Gemma clearly has her eye on the ball.”
“It’s a fan bike it doesn’t have a rotating wheel,” said another.
“Fabulous! I love the interaction between you and Mia,” praised another.
