The Woodward Dream Cruise is being replaced in 2020 by the MAGA Classic Car Cruise. The Oakland County Republican Party says this event will bring together classic car owners who are “MAGA loving Trump supporters and who also support the police who protect us.”
The MAGA Classic Car Cruise is scheduled for Saturday, August 15 from Noon – 4 p.m. That’s the same day the 26th annual Dream Cruise had been scheduled before it was canceled due to public health concerns amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
“With the traditional Dream Cruise cancelled due to our current situation, we felt the road was wide open for OCRP to host our own MAGA Classic Car Cruise,” said Rocky Raczkowski, Chairman of the OCRP. “Best of all, our MAGA Classic Car event will be run right on Woodward Avenue, the traditional route for cruisers.”
The Woodward Dream Cruise runs along a 10-mile stretch of road from Ferndale to Pontiac, attracting around 1 million people each year and about 50,000 classic vehicles.
“MAGA Classic Car Cruisers are welcome to drive the public highway loop as often as they like,” said Raczkowski. “We encourage Trump supporters to take a break from cruising to stop at our Oakland County Republican Party offices located at 42611 Woodward, Bloomfield Hill, MI 48304 (Woodward just south of Square Lake Road) to pick up a Trump 2020 yard sign and for refreshments. Trump merchandise will be available to purchase at that location.”
Raczkowski says a MAGA Classic Car can be any vehicle allowed to be driven on a taxpayer funded highway. Cruisers are asked to display American and Trump flags or respectful signs that support President Trump.
“Remember to stay in your vehicle and practice safe distancing protocols, as we have all been reminded by the Governor,” the OCRP said in its announcement. “Cars should be filled only with members of your immediate family to avoid the mask requirement. No carpooling since gas is cheap.”
